Cyril and I are both saddened to hear of Pat's passing. Pat was a student in my first class at St. Anne's in Dunville, and a most wonderful student he was. Most diligent, precise in his work, so conscientious, so focused he was tops in his class. Our paths crossed again when Pat came to St. Anne's Academy to do his teacher pratcticum and I became his mentor. His lessons were meticulous, he was totally dedicated to his work, and he was always willing to lend an extra hand. He showed compassion, kindness and sensitivity to his students while challenging them to do their best. Pat went on to be a substitute teacher and in that time he filled in for me many times and even did a term replacement in my class.The characteristics he showed as a young student carried over into his teaching career and his sense of humour and wit helped brighten up both classroom and staff room alike. Pat became not only our colleague, but also our friend. We are presently away, but we wish to send our condolences to Pat's family, friends, coworkers, and students. Rest in peace, Pat. To Pat's family, friends, students and co-workers, I extend my deepest sympathy as I too mourn the loss of a very special man whom I will always remember as not only an amazing teacher but also a dear friend. Some 13 years ago, I had the good-fortune to hire Pat as a teacher at Fatima Academy. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. From the first day he entered the school, Pat demonstrated total commitment, dedication, and enthusiasm. He loved teaching, and it showed in his every action. He was incredibly organized; he had excellent classroom management skills; he believed in hands-on learning and making it fun for his students; he cared deeply for each and every one of them and was determined to see each one achieve success; he was in constant communication with parents; and he was hard-working - a true professional. On staff, he worked tirelessly to support the school's efforts, volunteering, assisting, taking the lead... No task, no request, was too great or too small. Whatever had to be done, Pat was willing to do it. And he did it with a smile - that big, bright infectious smile. And boy did he make us smile, too. He made the staffroom a fun place to be, and was able to brighten even the toughest days. After I left Fatima in 2010, whenever I would encounter Pat, he would immediately and proudly fill me in on the latest greatest things happening with the school and the students. His love for his profession and his pride in his school clearly shone through. These were second only to his love for and pride in his two sons. Pat and Mitchell, your dad always spoke so highly of you,and he loved you both dearly. May your memories of him help carry you through this difficult time. And may it help to know that so many others care, and that they too are remembering with fondness this wonderful man. Rest in peace, dear friend of mine.

I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing, I am so shocked and just talked to Darlene and passed on my condolences to the staff. He was such a fun loving person and I truly enjoyed his presence in the school. He was a joy to work with and to know. The world was a better place because of his presence. It will not be the same going to the school now, he always said My God haven't you got the door locked ? Look at what just got in! That was always my greeting from him ,but I always had a rebuttal.

I had the pleasure of learning with Mr. Pat as a student at St. Francis Xavier (Long Harbour) and Whitbourne Central High School. Mr. Pat was a wonderful educator who made learning fun. I will always remember his connection with us as students, how he gave us a 'longer leash', and that he genuinely cared for us.
Thank you for your work in public schools and for teaching us about 'inclusion' in a 'safe and caring' environment long before those terms became 'buzz words' in the school system.
Mr. Pat, you will always be remembered as a teacher who put students first, Rest in Peace.

It is with deep sadness that we express our most sincere condolences to Eva and the members of the Callahan family at this most difficult time. Trying to find the appropriate words to explain the positive impact Pat Callahan had on the Cape Shore throughout his years with us is by no means an easy task. He would always greet you with a smile and was never too busy for a little yarn. Throughout his time at Fatima, Pat taught our three children, Fabian Jr., Mark and at the present time he was teaching Heather. They along with all the students at Fatima, past and present held him in high regard and had the utmost respect for him. Even though several years have passed since our two boys graduated, whenever we would encounter Pat he would always inquire about them and was genuinely interested in how they were doing. He had that special touch with all his students and there is no doubt they all have a happy memory of their time spent with him. In a world where so many want you to be someone else.....Pat Callahan was himself. He was kind hearted, sincere, humble and a friend to all. Maya Angelou once wrote “ I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Pat made us all feel good, he made us feel proud of who we are and in his own unique way made each day a little brighter for all of those who were fortunate enough to meet him during his life’s journey. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed by the students, staff, teachers and parents of the Fatima community. Your work on this earth is done....Rest in Peace dear friend!!

I had an opportunity to work with him for a few months in St. Edward's Elementary. He was a very organized, well prepared teacher and came to school with a smile everyday to meet his students. Our hearts are so sad today to know that our dear friend is gone to his eternal resting place. Pat is fondly remembered by each of us in many different ways. A co-worker who cared how my day was going, who I shared many laughs with and who I will always remember as caring, kind and compassionate. A teacher; who our daughter Emily looked up to. Pat made the transition from elementary school to Junior high so much easier for the students. Emily loved his sense of humor and always strived to please him with her work. Sir, you are and will always be missed by the students of Fatima. While Claire did not have Pat as a teacher she loved how he always spoke to her when he was on duty, how he always said Good Morning to the kids who went to the breakfast program and she was looking forward to having him as her teacher in the coming years. Shane and Pat always shared a laugh and chat whenever they would meet and Pat's love of the Cape Shore, the students and the parents always showed through his kind words.

He was very special to me, and was more than a teacher. Fatima Academy was extremely lucky to have such a special person, I can't imagine what they are going through.
Hoping you can all cherish your memories during this very difficult time, as I most definitely will forever remember him fondly.
