Harold, Benedict, Anna, Bertie, Junie, Donald, Maureen, Norman & Families Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on the passing of your Mom. She was a great lady who loved a joke and was quite the practical joker herself. I have many fond memories of our visits to Ship Cove on Sundays when we were younger, your home seemed to be the place that all relatives gathered. Even in the last number of years when alzheimers was taking her mind her spirit was still there and she would have that welcoming smile when you entered her room. She will be missed. Rest in peace Aunt Annie

To the Tobin and Brennan families: My sincerest condolences to you all at this time . Your mom and all her family have been very dear to my heart from the time I can remember going to Ship Cove to visit Aunt Mary Kate, their visits to Gooseberry -to my teaching there- the parties we had at Ship Cove, and at our home. I was so grateful for the many times she helped out with dad. When there were gaps in the homecare, she and Gus would sit there on Sunday nights. She had a big heart! I feel sad today that I am not there to pay tribute to her in person. God bless you all Florence Coffey

Harold, Anna, Benedict, Junnie, Bertie, Donald, Norman and last, but not least, my dearest cousin Maureen, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom. Aunt Annie what a joy she was in our life and how welcoming she was to go to your home. I remember so many summers and I leave you with a memory that has always stayed with me. Maureen, Lucille and I had spent the lazy days of summer wandering around the place. When we got to your mother's she gave Maureen a cup to go get some raspberries for your father's dessert for after supper. In our busy lives today, I surely appreciate how simple our life was then. Love from Mary, Doug, Colin, Mark and Ross.

In 2002 I created a scrapbook for Nanny ; a book of family pictures that she could keep by her bedside and peruse at her leisure. She was beginning to lose her memory and I had read that a scrapbook would be a great idea to help her remember familiar faces and events. Making the book was fun, but I won’t lie, collecting photos from a predominantly male family turned out to be no easy task. Amid the pictures that spanned generations were baptism, communion, wedding, and family shots, that were testimony to the cliché that pictures are worth a thousand words. And unless you were there, you would have no way of knowing the stories and yarns behind each and every page. While Martin was coaching and I was scrapbooking, Maureen and I spent hours chatting as each page came to fruition. Ask anyone, Maureen and I can only answer each others calls if we have four hours to spare! The book became something of a history lesson as Jonathan and Clayton were amused by tales out of Ship Cove. When in doubt about who was who, my dad would come to the rescue and fill in the details. There is a certificate in that book, that attests to the fact that Annie and Ida were the best Nanny and Granny ever. The picture showcased the world’s most awesome grandmothers having tea; definitely a KODAK moment. Losing them both so close together is quite heartbreaking. They had a lot in common, but we all know Nanny Tobin was no push over! She loved like no other, and never let any of us out of her sight or off the phone without saying , “ I love you” but with one glance or short word she could bring the room to a hault. Nice as pie, yes, but we all knew not to over do it. Her compassion and unconditional love for all could quickly turned to fury when the boys had a drop in!!!! Of course that was only obvious to those near and dear, because she was deeper than the ocean and never showed the world her dismay...after all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She had a wicked sense of humour, and I know it took Martin a while to get used to our banter. She would ask if he wanted a smile...looking a little bewildered, she would then add that that is what Uncle Willie called a drink!! Whenever she asked about our boys, I would tell her wonderful things, and she would say they were perfect just like their grandfather Harold, and then she would give a little chuckle. Long before her memory started to fade, she named every child from the first born down, and I am sure Norman must have taught he was royalty with the litany of names she would shout before finally saying Norman. Names were not her strong point, and she had a habit of grouping us all. During the past few years when I would call on Saturday afternoons, and ask how she was doing, she would be adamant that she was fine. No matter who had been to visit her, she always said Chris’s crowd were there. No wonder, given how awesome they have been to Nanny for many years. The hairdo’s and the laughter were welcomed gifts. Thank you. Whenever I phoned on Sunday, and asked what she was up to, she was always just finished praying the rosary. Again, no matter who was there, she told me Donny was there. She was blessed to have such wonderful sisters. She lost her brothers much too soon, but I will never forget Mikey trying to teach Nanny how to drive, and before he could finish explaining power brakes, he almost went through the windshield. For the few driving lessons I shared with Nanny, I wore a helmet and warned Pete to go home. Nanny conquered driving in her late 60’s, but even after ten years of driving, when she came to St. Brides she parked on the side of the road so she did not have to back up. I am still fascinated by the whole story of the loaves and the fishes, but I must admit, everytime I hear that bible story my mind drifts back to Nanny’s kitchen in Ship Cove, where she could make a meal and feed us all on a Sunday evening out of leftovers. Now I look at a chicken and think how! It must be frustrating for the Tobin wives to still hear their husbands talk about the way mom cooked this and that!!! Of course her baking was second to none and when she hauled those homemade buns fresh out of the over they were to die for. Gailene’s favourite’s were the bangbelly’s, but Gina’s fondest memories although from the kitchen, have nothing to do with Nanny’s cooking. It is an amusing story of Nanny spending the evening standing on the kitchen table waiting for some of the boys to get home because she was petrified of a mouse! Nanny and mice were not a good combination. May you all find comfort in the memories of a great woman. I am thankful for her hugs, kisses, laughter, prayers, guidance, and presence. I know I should have paid more attention to the knitting, and your green thumb, but your gift of growing the most beautiful flowers, just passed right over me. And yes, Nanny, I love you too!

Members of the Family: I offer my sympathy as we celebrate the rich Christian life of a wonderful woman. Annie truly let the light of Christ shine in her life and we are assured that she gains the promise of new life.............resurrection. I will offer mass for her and certainly I want to give thanks for the wonderful kindness she extended to me. Another great saint enters the heavens and in my own selfish way I am certain she will present my prayer to the Lord. To all the family and friends, let us give thanks to the Lord for the kind, loving, Christian living of our sister. May she rest in peace. God Bless Fr Wayne Dohey

My dear cousins - These past few days have been filled with nostalgic memories of your wonderful mother and the idyllic summer days we spent on the Cape Shore and in particular, Ship Cove. At the centre of every memory is your mom. Like so many, I remember Aunt Annie as someone who was always so much fun and lively. She could tell the most comical tales and you could never be quite sure where the embellishment started or ended. She had a hearty laugh and a sincere, warm welcome for anyone who came to her home. She was certainly one of the kindest and most sincere people I've ever known. My brothers and I always looked forward to the time we could spend in Ship Cove. Everyday seemed filled with adventure and the days were never long enough to squeeze it all in. The constant in those memories would be all of you and your parents. I'm sure that many of you, and our cousins, can remember your kitchen being the centre of action and filled with people from ages 2 - 60+ on Sunday afternoon. The cast often included your mom's sisters, brothers and their children. There always seemed to an accordion, a few spoons, lots of singing and so much laughter. There would be a few dancing. In the midst of all of that would be King - your dog. Very nice memories of a much more innocent time when everyone was younger and healthier. I had the opportunity to visit your mother on Sunday. Little did I realize then how sad the day would end. As I looked at her I was flooded with memories of how fiercely proud she was of all of you. Her love for you was evident in her every action. What a legacy you have been left with! I can only imagine the void that you, my mom and her sisters must be feeling right now. We can't turn back the hands of time, but time leaves us with sweet memories. You are fortunate to have so many wonderful memories. In time you'll find the way to heal your broken hearts. We are thinking of you all during this time of immeasurable sorrow.

I work at the Lion's Manor Nursing Home and I have to say Annie was a breath of fresh air. When I was cleaning up her room or just sitting and talking to her I would make her smile and laugh. I would do silly little things and I still do. Annie was one very special lady. I was so sadden to hear of her passing. She is now smiling down from heaven. God bless you all!
