My thoughts and prayers are with the family as the anniversary of Mel's passing nears. May it give you all comfort, knowing that he is missed and still loved by so many others. And for you Mel, I am sure that your heart is full of joy and so much pride, as you look back to see your beautiful family growing and cherishing your memory.

I only learned of Majella's passing today, Feb. 12/13. I met him as a young boy when both of our dads worked for the Department of Highways as night watchmen. Probably 1965. Highways had 2 gravel pits on the old dirt road going to Colinet from South East. One camp was at the Cataracs and the other about 10 miles from the "Mile Straight". Our dads watched over those camps at night and weekends. Of course, they brought us kids along for their "shifts". We'd spend our time exploring the woods and river and ponds -- trouting and so forth. We'd see the Newmans at shift change. Majella always knew where the cool spots were and we'd share our knowledge like it was the Holy Grail. We'd only get to chat for a few minutes each shift change, but it was enough to know he was a great guy. We were about 12 or 13 at the time. Later, in Laval High we were classmates and often spent lunch hours roaming around Placentia with the other students. I remember Majella as a happy, smiling, and friendly person. Quick witted and ready to laugh. Unfortunately, we hardly had any contact since we left school, life taking us in different directions. But I still fondly remember him. Rest in Peace, Majella. Con

Like everyone else, with a heavy heart I say so long for now, Mel. Although we never met personally, I have enjoyed your sense of humour over the few years that we kept in touch by email. It did my heart good to know how much you thought of your children and how protective you were of all children, everywhere. You will be missed by all that knew you. Till we meet one day, rest in peace, Mel.

Majella and I went to Trade School together and shared accomodations in Gander way back in the early 70's. We were both hired at the same time and came to Montreal to work for Air Canada in the summer of 1972. We worked together for many years and remained as friends even after life found us going in very different directions. I am saddened by his passing and will always remember him as my very good friend. My sincere sympathies to his family. He will be missed!
