Obituary of Kevin Hubert McCarthy

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Kevin Hubert McCarthy on Nov 22, 2024, at the age of 69. Formerly of Upper Island Cove, and Dunville, NL and now residing in Strathmore, AB. Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Gerald Sr. and Gladys McCarthy; brother, Hubert Coombs; step siblings, Clarence Coombs, Claude Coombs, Emma Mercer; brother-in-law, Paul Mercer; his parents-in law, Leo and Annie Hann, and sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Barry and Gerti Johnson, and sister-in-law Doreen Hann. Leaving to mourn, his loving wife of 41 years, Vera (Hann), his children, Francis (Bridget), Katie, Joshua and the little girl who filled his heart, his granddaughter, Ellie. His siblings, Gladys (Gus) Bishop, Wayne (Jeanette) McCarthy, Gerald (Sylvia) McCarthy, Sharon (John) Peddle, Elaine Mercer (Maurice); brothers and sisters-in-law, Anselm (Sheila) Hann, Phonse (Angie) Hann, Father Jerome Hann, Mae (Bob)Cook, Annamarie Hann and also a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he loved dearly. Kevin had a great sense of humour and was a great storyteller. He taught high school Math and Science for over 30 years between St. Anne's Academy in Dunville, NL and Laval High School, Placentia, NL. His greatest joy was seeing students excited to learn. He loved music and happily volunteered his time whether it was a school function, church choir, family gathering or monthly visit to the Seniors home with his music friends. If a guitar accompaniment was needed, Kevin was there. After retirement, he moved to Alberta to be close to his granddaughter. He went to work with his brother-in-law, and best friend, Bob Cook, and enjoyed every minute of their adventures in construction. Kevin was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Uncle who made his family his first priority. Special thanks to the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Calgary, especially Dr. Wu and Dr. Yip who took such good care of Kevin. Also, Dr. Sader, the Home Care Team, and the wonderful staff at the Strathmore Hospital who treated him with such kindness and compassion. Resting at Wheatland Funeral Home, 202 Lakeside Blvd, Strathmore, AB on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Veterans Way, Placentia, NL on Dec 8th , 2024 from 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Dec 9th , 2024 from 10;00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Funeral will take place from St. Anne's Church, Dunville on Dec 9th at 1pm.
