Florence and family...Mr. Brooks and my Dad were good friends. I remember Mr. Brooks at my Dad's funeral, saying that all of his old buddies were gone (at the time, Mr. Ken Foote had recently passed away). Even though you and and your family are sad, if we allow ourselves for a few moments to believe your Dad is with your Mom again, and all of his old buddies, then we cannot help but smile. That, along with the great memories you have of your Dad, will help you through this difficult time. To me, I remember him mostly from Gulf or Placentia Junction service station. I'd be with Dad and Mom and we'd pull up to the pumps, Mr. Brooks would come out, beret on like always, "Hey Charlie". "Fill 'er up, Joe, and mark it down." "Will do, Charlie." Then they'd have a yarn while the tank was filling up. A memory from a long time ago but one that makes me smile. I hope it makes you smile too.

My grandfather Joe was one of the best men I have known in my life . Treated me like I was his own, never failed to askme every time I called home “are you ok are you doing good?” And I would say yes Pop I’m good and he would say now you wouldn't lie to me would you because I’ll becoming there to get you. I’ll never forget the first face I would see at the airport when Emily and would go home and the hug I would get that just make all things right . The smell of that old spice will remind me of him till the day I die . He loved my grandmother like nobody else and they had a love and a look that they gave each other that nobody else had. I know your with Nan and your Both watching. My heart crushed the day I was told I would loose you and it broke the day I was told I lost you. You will always be the first And most important man in my life I will love you always and forever my Pop.

To the Brooks families, especially Flo, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of Mr. Arthur W. Brooks. Affectionately known as "Joe." He was one of the kindest, funny men I ever met. He was always up for a yarn. I got to know him at the garage when I would spend time there with Flo while she worked. I have a lot of fond memories of him, but I have to say my favourite one was watching Joe, watching wrestling at the garage on Saturday evenings. He would come there after he dropped Marie at church. He used to get so into watching the wrestling, that more than once I figured he would end up on the floor. He would be rubbing his hands together and singing out at the TV telling the wrestlers to give it to each other. He was a gentle giant! I haven't seen him in a while but when I did, he always had a big bear hug for me. I hope you find peace in knowing he had a long, wonderful life and is now reunited with his beloved Marie. Keep all the memories you have of him near and he will always be close in your heart. God bless you Joe. Tammy (Collins) Allen. xo

The first photo was taken the summer of their 66th Anniversary and Nanny's 90th Birthday. My parents Sandra (Brooks) and Jim and I drove down from Ontario to celebrate with everyone, and as always we stayed and Nanny and Poppy's house. I remember this specific moment very well; I had the camera out, and just to bug her, Pop asked Nan to give him a smooch so I could take a picture. Initially she laughed and said something along the lines of "Go away wit ya!" but Pop took her by the hand and she leaned in for a peck and I quickly took this shot. They both giggled afterwards like they were to youngsters in love, and for that reason this is my absolute favourite memory of them both.
In the second photo: Bob, Art, Nan, Pop, Sandra and Florence lined up in front of the garage.
This was the day we had family and friends over to celebrate both their birthdays and their anniversary. I managed to get a small group shot of Nan and Pop with a few of their kids.
Poppy, may you rest peacefully with Nanny. I know you missed her so.
All my love,
Erin.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your precious father. I’ve known Mr. B since I could toddle. He was a very dear friend of my mother and father. I often times remember “stopping at the garage” with Dad. A couple of years ago, Mr. B was in hospital while I was home in Placentia. I’ll forever remember both of us crying when we saw each other. We talked about his times with Mom and Dad. I loved hearing his lighthearted stories. They made me feel as if I was reliving those happy times again.
I sure will miss seeing that big smile and getting those big hugs every time we met.
Mr. B had a knack for making people feel like they were the most important person in the room. It takes someone special to do that.
Placentia has lost one of it’s finest residents.
He made an indelible mark on our community....one that won’t be soon forgotten.
Rest easy Mr. B and thank you for making this little girl feel special.
