Dear Joan and the Griffiths family, I only just found out about Eugene passing. I am so sorry. He was such a wonderful man with a great sence of humor. For being such a quiet man he left such a big mark on this world. He brightened all the lives of those who knew him. He will be missed very much. And joanie I am so sorry that I didn't know about your loss sooner...You are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless Love Rhonda

I was going to try to say this at the funeral but I don't think I will be able so I decided to write it here instead. So here goes, I was thinking today about how I was going to say good bye to my favorite uncle. But of all the things I would say to him if given the chance good bye would not be one of them. So instead I'm going to remember him. What I remember most about Uncle Eugene was his sense of humor. As most every one knows up until recent years my family spent every Christmas in Ship Harbour and one year in particular upon arriving at Nan's we were met in the door way by Eugene with a beard down on his chest pretending to be Santa Clause. I'm not exactly sure how long it took him to grow it but he must have been planning it for along time. I also remember another Christmas when he had asked mom to get him a watch, so he hung up his stocking behind the wood stove and went to bed and didn't he ever laugh when he woke up to find that mom, Rose and Mary had filled his stocking with salt meet, a turkey neck and a big piece of fat pork. All of which nan had been looking for to start dinner for in the morning. I remember him calling me smurf and picnic's with ketchup sandwiches and freshie (Eugene name for koolade). I remember the kindness he showed when taking care of nan, and how happy he was when he finally found love with Joan. I could go on forever about all the things I remember and will never forget but I'm going to stop there and say not good bye but C-Ya later and Love You and will miss you always.

Upon hearing of Eugene's passing from Tommy N.i was shock and saddened at his sudden passing at such an earlier age.Myself and Tommy both began to share some of the many funny experiences we had over the years at Mrs Liz's, most of which would be inappropriate to share here.I would first like to send my deepest condolences to Joan and all the other members of Eugene's family I share your grief and loss at Eugene's passing and i can assure you all, he will be fondly remembered and spoken of with only fondness, as he deserves no less.Eugene was always there for a good laugh no matter what the time of day,he was a very funny, kind and down to earth person. I recall once when Pius was getting ready to go out on a Saturday night and he came down the stairs dressed for a night on the town, myself and Eddie G. were sitting with Eugene at the table and Eugene's comment when Pius passed by was " Daddy Wore that Suite in 1942" and needless to say the comment casued side splitting laughter even from Pius and that was quite typical of Eugene's humor, he was trully priceless and none can compare.Once in a lifetime a person comes along who has the kind of influence that Eugene has had on me and i can only thank him for helping shape me into who i am today.I spent many hours visiting and listening too the many stories at Mrs Liz's and Eugene was one of the biggest reason's i kept coming back, he was quick to share a story and a cup of tea,Eugene was and always will a very special person and i am richer for having known him.RIP Eugene you'll be fondly remembered by many more than you know.

Joanie, and all of Eugene's family and friends....It's not easy for me to accept that Eugene is gone and just as hard to say goodbye to a special lifelong neighbor and friend. Always there to help anyone at a seconds notice,Eugene could, at the same time throw in a comical remark that would lighten up the most serious situation! I always loved to be around his house; You never knew what was going to happen or be said, but you always knew you'd be laughing before you left! It's tough enough for me to know that he won't be there when I go home to visit; I can only imagine how hard it is for you. Please accept my condolences, and please know that I share in your mourning. See You again old friend!

Eugene; How do I say good bye to you this is one of the hardest things I had to do. I live with you for 6 wonderful months and I was your sister - in - law for 8 years and out of them 8 years we had so many laughs and tears. I will take care of Joan and Nathan for you, OMG do you even know how much Nathan loves you it kill me this morning to tell him his favourite Uncle when to heaven with the angels. I remember sending up chiling to you and you told Joan to call the fire trucks cause I cook it to hot or what about that time when you give Nathan the baby button with soap water into it and Nathan throw it across the wall. oh my so many memories and I hope Nathan never forgets you cause you were just like a father to him and he loves you so much. Joan don't worried I will be there for you day or night cause I love you so much and I know how much you love Eugene. You might what you say on August 23, 2002 when you say tell death do you part cause you did that. Love you Angela
