I would like to send this condolence to the entire Barry family considering we were all close to Gerald and knew how long he was battling illness. Gerald was very strong and battled hard, time was his worst enemy, but his life will be remembered. I am presently in Calgary and wish I could be there to share and remember Gerald at his funeral, I am sure there will be many people there and that he will be smiling down on everyone to see the care that is being shown, and the memories. Lisa, Daryl and Lorne will carry on his legacy and have done well to do so, I am proud to have been helped by you all at one point or another during my stint in Ontario etc. I am proud to say that Gerald did very well creating a family and providing for them, the shop in ferndale etc.. but he was also a great man and a good hearted soul to us all, he took care of us when we were around and that was allot growing up there. Just being in ferndale and walking into the shop was engraved in my memory and he was always there, the center piece so to say lol, and the character was evidently provided by the one person who we will be Honoring at this time, you will be missed Gerald and you will live on forever in our memories, thoughts and stories. Love Jason B.

Mary, Lorne, Darrell and Regina, and Lisa and families. I was so sad to hear of Gerald's passing. It was almost a year to the day since Mom passed away, so I certainly know how you are all feeling today. The one thing I always remember about Gerald Barry is when I'd go into the store or house and he'd say, "How'ya Young Pomroy?" It was always with a laugh or a smile, no matter how he was feeling at the time. He was always so interested in how all my crowd was doing. We'd always have a chat, especially when I dropped off the Charters years ago. I'm sure I think exactly what most people are saying over the past few days...Ferndale has lost another great soul. Take care, Carol Anne

Dear Mary & family, We were very saddened to hear of Gerald's passing. We hope you will take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering & that you have the support of a loving family & many good friends. I'll always remember Gerald as he was many years ago, when we were growing up next door in Ferndale. What wonderful neighbours you & Gerald were to all of us, especially in the years after Dad passed away. It seems that Gerald always had a sense of humour, and was always there with a joke or a funny comment to brighten the day.He will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Our deepest sympathy to the Barry family on the passing of Gerald. What fond memories we have back in the 70's when "Mr. Barry" worked at Fitzgerald's Pond Park. Our family & friends, Mike Butler, Joe Butler, O'Brien, Gorman & Bursey families were always welcomed there by his friendly smile and hearty laugh. We always knew that "Mr. Barry" would have a site waiting for us on Friday night. He was a wonderful person, and yes we often visited his store in Ferndale too. May he rest in peace.

Even though we can't be there in person, please be assured that you are all in our hearts during this sad time. Mary and family, It is with the greatest sadness that I heard of Gerald's passing. My heart and prayers are with you at this time. I look back on my childhood in Ferndale with such good memories, you and Gerald being such a big part of it. I remember my first job spent serving ice cream at your store across the garden and the teasing I endured from Gerald ...always with a smile. Of course, I can't forget you both letting me take Lorne home, to nanny's, whenever I wanted. I know the sadness you feel now, but find comfort in those around you and know he has touched the hearts of those who new him. I will think of him always with love and a smile. Wish I could be there in person to share some of my memories of Gerald. When I was a kid I was terribly impressed by Gerald. Dad used to take us to FitzGerald's park and Gerald would always meet us at the entrance and make sure we got into the park or that Dad could get a spot for the camper. He seemed to me very important in his ranger uniform and I suppose I used to think he owned the place....or at least that it was named after him. I was always amazed with the variety of stuff around his store too. Trophies in different stages of assembly, plates getting engraved, lots of toys and different treats....and I don't remember getting out of that shop without at least a free bar or a new toy. I think his most generous act was when he agreed to be a bone marrow donor for aunt Clarice, even though he had spend more than his fair share of time in hospital and enduring a kidney transplant. I'm sad he's gone but he did leave me with a lot of pleasant memories of him. You are missed Uncle Gerald. Jeremy
