To: Granny, Joe, Lucy, Donald; At a time of mourning I think it is important to remember and share some of a person's character and wisdom as part of celebrating one's life. Although Maurice could have a rough and sometimes hard side he also had a giving and fun side also. As a child growing up across the road from Granny and Maurice I remember going to see live wrestling with Maurice and Granny, getting to drive his truck while many my age weren't even allowed to try that! He always had a sense of humor and could always make you laugh. Some of the stories he told me about when he was younger were often very funny and interesting to say the least. I hope that Maurice's family can reflect on the fond and positive memories of him and his life in their time of mourning. Take care. Rodney Coffey

To Maurice: Man might have created the clock, but he’ll never be able to stop time’s ravages. He can decorate that clock with singing birds all he wants, but one day all of of us will hear the final call. You liked the birds though: my earliest memory has you at an open window with them chirping in your palm. I also remember the wooden dory, early morning drives through thick fog to the wharf, the cod tongue dinners and that foolish ol’ wrestling. Lots of good laughs all throughout. It feels odd and surreal now to be typing these words on a computer; I can’t imagine you logging on and having a read. I’d rather be sitting across from that chair, sharing a drink and having a good argument over the merits of Wayne Gretzky. Wherever you are now, rest assured you will be missed - not forgotten, and that somewhere in the ether I hope to see you again. -Young Walter

Joe, Donald & Lucy I am so very sorry for your loss. I knew your father hadn't been doing very well over the past few months and yet the news of his passing still comes as a shock. Being so far away makes it harder to stay in touch with what's happening at home. My wish for all of you is that you cherish your fond memories of your dad and that you be supportive of each other in the days to come. Take good care, Liz

Granny ( Eva ), Joe, Lucy and Donald, So sorry to hear about Maurice's passing. I have fond memories of Maurice from all my visits over the years. He always treated me and my children good, having a few dollars set aside for each time we visited. I still laugh at the time that he asked one of my girls to fill his glass up with water. She proceded to the kitchen, emptied out the brown liquid in the glass, and brought him back a glass of water. He never let her live that one down, throwing his liquor down the sink. We all laughed that day, even him. Sorry I can't be there but please be assured that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Take care nan, Maurice is at peace now. Love, Yvette, Eugene, Brianna, Jenna and Declan
