Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Since the tales of Richard are most definitely the making of a great book, there is little doubt that you are all sharing some very good stories about the life he lived for those he loved. (I am sure you need no story starters but his rendition about buying shampoo has been shared in this house on many occasions...and of course the nights he spent saving fools from deplorable weather conditions who were trying to get to dances...!!) Between Martin and I we have spent a considerable amount of our lives visiting your home, from the Ridge in Point Lance to St. Brides. Richard's tenacity and work ethic were inspiring. He laboured and toiled in many industries, all for the cause of being a good provider. While it didn't take much to get him riled up over politics, in the same fashion he would drop everything and lend a helping hand. Thank you for being a great neighbour and a friend forever. Richard, may you rest in peace.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Richard was our very good neighbour for almost 25 years. Over the next few days I am sure that you will share many wonderful memories of a hardworking man who gave it his all tirelessly to provide for his family. From the highways to taxiing to the restaurant and gas industry Richard put a lot of time and energy into making a living. Richard and Betty rared a big family in trying times; may every mark of their dedication to you all, bring you comfort. It has been a hard year, but you have always been there for each other and I am sure you will do likewise now. Take care. God Bless.

Richard and Betty have been a special part of my life. They provided love, comfort, and lots of TLC, when i needed it. Their home and doors were open to be at any time. When I think back to those days, it is with loving and fond memories, the laughs, peeling potatoes, creeping in at all hours of the night, and i was accepted as part of the clan. I am so grateful taht I got a chance to thank him in May. May you rest in peace, with your love, knowing you have made such a difference in my life.

Our sincere condolences to the Careen Family on your loss. Richard was such vibrant presence for all his years on Cape Shore. Pat spent hours in their restaurant without a harsh word said by either Richard or Betty to anyone. For me, they would both come out to visit us when we went over for a meal, especially when my mom and dad were with us. He was such a knowledgable and wise person about so many things. When our parents passed away, he would still come have a chat and would always say, "I know ye are Joseph Nash's but I don't know all your names". Such a sad loss for that area. RIP Mr Careen.

My great friend. Richard and I first met when we served on school boards in the 1980s. We became friends during that time. After I became a politician in 1989, I found Richard to be a soulmate who shared many political views with me. We became even better friends during that period. I have always had the highest regard for him and Elizabeth and counted them among my true friends in life. I share the sorrows of his family, and you will be in my prayers as you mourn for him, shed tears together, but also celebrate his life. Marge and I send our blessings to you all.
