Dear Uncle Leonard, Tom, Lennie, and Glenda We are very saddened t o hear of the passing of Aunt Nell. On behalf of the family of Gerald and Christina (Mary) King, our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of need. We know that she had gone through a lot over the past number of years. She is no longer in pain now, but that does not lessen the pain you feel, now that she is no longer here on earth with you. As Tom said to me as we were talking on Saturday night, “Mother is a woman of faith, and we will see here up there in Heaven in twenty or thirty years”. I, Terry, have many fond memories of Aunt Nell. She and Uncle Leonard would always have yeast bread rising to make toutons. And whenever we dropped by, she would always invite us to have a cup of tea and whatever food she had cooked at the time. She was a generous person, and was always willing to listen to a joke or tell a joke or story of her own. When May and I visited Aunt Nell and Uncle Leonard after we were first married, they both welcomed May with open arms. Aunt Nell had a big feed on, and invited us to join them. May was touched by the generosity of Aunt Nell and Uncle Leonard and fondly recalls Aunt Nell’s cheerful personality. Our son, Ian, still talks about the wonderful cats that Aunt Nell had around the house and the wonderful Newfie Homemade Bread that goes great with butter and bologna. I remember when we were growing up in Fox Harbour, and her son Tom (my cousin) and I would always like to “repair” and tinker with radios, tape recorders, and various electronic equipment that were usually in good working condition before we took them apart. Well, Tom and I would disassemble these devices on top of Aunt Nell’s bed. We would take them apart, leaving electronic circuit boards and screws, and nuts and bolts all over her bed. As a matter of fact, we very rarely did manage to fully reassemble the electronic devices, sometimes leaving them disassembled for weeks, and always with parts missing when they were put together. Sometimes, the equipment never did work again. I remember Aunt Nell calling to tom “Tom, WHAT IS THIS THING DOING ON MY BED!! I want to be able to go to bed tonight!!” Aunt Nell would always joke about how Tom and I were great “tinkerers”. She would say “Mark my words. Once those two take something apart, it will never be the same again.” Who knew that both Tom and I would spend our entire career working in electronics, with Tom involved in the field of aircraft? Thanks, Aunt Nell for your patience as we used your house as a testing ground. I was very impressed at how well Aunt Nell took to the Internet Age. When Glenda and Carl introduced her to computers in her later years, Aunt Nell embraced email, chatting, and all of the computer applications with ease, as if she were a new age kid going to university. She mastered the computer, whereas many of her peers at that age would feel overwhelmed by the new technology. Aunt Nell is an excellent example of “it is never too late to learn something new”. Aunt Nell tried to live life to the fullest even up to her last breath of life. Let that be an inspiration to anyone who starts giving up when they meet his/her first hurdles. Aunt Nell tackled all of her hurdles head on, and never gave up. Of course, having Uncle Leonard by her side didn’t hurt. The last and most important thing that I would like to mention is that Aunt Nell and her family was generous, kind-hearted, and compassionate, and demonstrated it not just through words, but by actions as well. When our Father, Gerald King, was sick during the last years of his life, Aunt Nell, Uncle Leonard, their daughter Glenda, and Glenda’s husband Carl, did so much for our Mom and Dad, that we will never be able to repay them for their good deeds. None of us children lived close to Mom and Dad, so essentially, Aunt Nell and Uncle Leonard and their children were the only family available to help them at that time. They helped mow the lawn, plow the snow, drive Dad to Placentia and St. John’s for Doctors’ appointments and surgery, rush over to the house if Dad fell or hurt himself, drive Mom to Placentia for groceries, and many other tasks that are too numerous to list here. The time spent helping Mom and Dad took away from the care that Aunt Nell required, as she was not healthy herself. Aunt Nell unselfishly supported the assistance being given to Dad, denying herself the support that she needed, which is the ultimate example of selfless sacrifice. Tom and Glenda summed it up ever so poignantly ” That is what families are for. You help your family however you can. “ Aunt Nell was a caring, family person, who was love by many. Aunt Nell, you are an Angel in disguise. We are very proud and honoured to have known Aunt Nell King. We are very sad that she is no longer around on this earth. She will find her resting place in Heaven, where she will no longer be in pain. Aunt Nell, may you rest in peace. Terry, May, and Ian King

Lenny, Glenda and Tom How do we put in words something that is only felt from the heart. she was a woman that took you for who she saw and that in her terms was all that mattererd. She loved her children and anyone that they brought home were number 1 in her books. Tony's memories of her is that she would only play darts if she was on his team, he would tell her she would only get away on air canada.... how she would laugh and say a few explicit words to him about that phase :) Now we have also seen the stern motherly side of her as well but it wasn't as scarey are we pretended. We are sure you are all having mixed emotions right now concerning her passing it is both a blessing and a sad time. Live through your memories which are plentiful and you shall have lots to fulfill your loney days. with much love Debbie and Tony Meade

Dear Leonard and Family Members, Please accept my deepest sympathy on the death of Nell. Although she had many health problems, I know her death brings all of you much sadness and loneliness. I think that the last time I saw her was at Mary's Wake when she was concerned about everyone else not herself. Another one of Fox Harbour's fine women is now watching over all of us from heaven. May the memory of her life, her spirit, her kindness, her love of music, and her love of and pride in each of you bring you comfort and strength in these days of sadness. May God bless each of you with consolation and hope. May Nell now know peace in God's love for all eternity. With our sympathy, Sister Elizabeth and all the Davises

Leonard,Tom,Lenny and Glenda my deepest condolences go out to you at this time. Nell was a great soul and I am glad I was able to know her as well as I did. Nell was a great mom and I consider her and Leonard like foster parents, as I spent more time at your home growing up than I did at my own home. Nell and Leonard always made me me feel welcome and like a part of the family. She is deeply missed and I am thinking of all of you at this time of great sadness. Mike

Leonard, Glenda, Lenny, Tom and all the family I send my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. Nell was my special friend, and my heart is heavy with grief. Nell was an exceptional woman it didnt matter if u were the prince of arabia or some regular joe off the street she treated everyone the same. The door was always open and in her own words "your welcome as the flowers in may", many good times I spent with nell, and ill treasure them forever. I also expend my deepest condolences to her sister and best friend Bride. I cant imagine the loss you are feeling. May you all find comfort in each other to get you through this troublesome time. Nell has left behind her a legacy of kindness, tenderness and humility. God's peace is yours now dear friend, and eternal rest be yours. I'll always love and remember you.

My heart is broken because of your passing ... I will never forget the kindness and love you have shown me the past 15 years. You were like a second mother to me, not a mother in law. You welcomed me into your home and your family with open arms without hesitation. I will always remember the good times we shared and the many laughs we had together ... R.I.P my friend ...
