Bertha was a wonderful friend and neighbour, to my mother-in-law Elizabeth Pittman(Liz). They spent many hours chatting, exchanging cooked meals. Liz always was amazed how Bertha would cook for herself -- eat pork chops and chicken dinners and still stay so skinny. Bertha was also a lover of lobsters, Liz would invite her out and especially save the bodies. I really couldn't even stand the smell or the look of the green mush. Bertha would sit there with a spoon and eat it like it was pudding. She would say, "God girl, this is the best, it'd bring ya to life!" She would enjoy it so much she made my mouth water till one day she made me try a spoonful and she was right, it was the best. So, I'm sure Bertha, such a good and kind person, is in heaven passing Liz a spoon - Come on Liz girl, It'd bring ya to life.....
