Obituary of Ambrose Joseph McGrath
Please share a memory of Ambrose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a brief battle with cancer, we announce the peaceful passing of Ambrose McGrath - husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend on December 2, 2024, at the age of 87.
He departed this life surrounded by his loving children at the Placentia Health Center. He will be sadly missed by his children Carl (Janet); Glenn (Mariko); Beulah (Barry); Rosalyn (John) as well as his cherished grandchildren Ian, Patrick, Dillon, Josh, Colin, Aimee, Jacob, Mila, and great grandson Teddy. Ambrose also leaves to mourn brothers Gilbert (Sheila), Dominic, Benedict (Darlene), Cyril (Liz), Reggie (Jane), Calvin, Brendan, Joseph (Jackie); sisters Vera (Jerome), Genevieve (Vivian) and Wilhemina (Johnny). Ambrose is now reunited in heaven with his beloved Nellie, devoted wife of 58 years. Also waiting to welcome him home, his parents Ignatius and Genevieve, infant brother, brothers Junior and Kenneth as well as his sister Bernadette (Alfred) Cahill and sisters in law Elsie and Maureen.
Born on November 19, 1937, Ambrose spent a career as a skilled heavy equipment operator, a prominent citing on the shore roads in all weather conditions. He lived a full life of hard work and dedication to his family and community. In his downtime, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and darts in St Bride’s and watching the Blue Jays. He and Nellie took their family camping every summer all over Newfoundland, creating cherished memories that his children will carry with them forever.
During a well-deserved retirement, Ambrose and Nellie enjoyed visiting with their children and grand children and their cherished home in Patrick's Cove was always a place everyone loved to come home to. It was always a gathering place for his large family of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed the time he spent with all of you.
Though we will miss him more than words can express, we take comfort in knowing that he lived a great, long life and that he has been reunited with Nellie. You will always be remembered, always loved, and forever missed.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr Power and the staff at Placentia Health Center. Words can’t express our gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion you provided to our dad during his hospital stay.
