It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Anthony Joseph Barry of St. Bride’s, aged 68 years at the Miller’s Center on Friday, July 12th. An exceptional fisherman, beloved son, brother, & uncle. He left us for calmer waters after a brave battle with cancer leaving behind a legacy of love, strength & many cherished memories.
Predeceased by his parents Lawrence & Lena Barry. Father-in- law & Mother-in-law Raymond & Martha Foley & Grandparents.
He leaves to mourn & will be deeply missed by his partner of 40 years, Vivian Foley.
His Brother’s & Sister’s: Lar (Bernadette), Leonard (Carol), Ernest (Candice), Paddy (Doreen), Tommy (Rowena), Gerald (Susan), Janet (Don), Tina (Pat), Sheila (John), Darlene (Norman), Eileen (John) & Maureen, nieces, nephews as well as a large circle of extended family & friends & all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on February 22, 1956, Anthony was a man of the sea, whose passion and drive for fishing were unmatched. He spent numerous hours navigating the waters with various crews over the years. His expertise and knowledge of the industry was unparallel, earning him the respect and admiration of fellow fisherman. Fishing was a family affair that started with his father and continued on with a few brothers for many years. He had a strong love for his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Family was his anchor!
Anthony provided unwavering love, support & encouragement. He was a man of integrity and known for his unwavering moral compass and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. He will be remembered for his tough exterior and warm and kind heart. He was always ready to listen, share a laugh, a good story, play a tune on the accordion or pour a drink of lambs for you!
He loved music, a good meal, loved socializing; he was a real social butterfly
He was often referred to as the Highliner, Captain Barry.
We would like to say a very big thank you to all the medical personnel who helped Anthony in any way throughout his short battle. Thanks to Cape Shore Ambulance especially Glen & Yvonne for making his “final” ride a good one. A special thank you to Community Health Nurse, Vivian Careen who has gone above and beyond for him during his time of illness.
Cremation has taken place. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 16 from: 10:00 - 9:00, Funeral service to take place at Coombs Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 17 at 11:00am. Inurnment to follow in Coombs Memorial Cemetery, Southeast.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
As we bid “See you Later” Skipper, let’s remember him for the love he shared, the memories he created and the impact he made on our lives. May his soul rest in peace and his spirit guide us forever.
