Obituary of Edward Fitzgerald

It is with saddened hearts that the family of Edward (Ned) Fitzgerald announce his passing on Aug. 4 at the Health Science Center in his 84th year. Predeceased by his mother and father Edward and Mary Fitzgerald, brothers: Joe, Maurice and Vince Fitzgerald and Bernard Viscount, sisters: Catherine Hanrahan, Chris Fulford, Jenny Wakeham and Bride Patterson; parents in law: Cornelius and Rita Traverse. sister in law Madeline McGrath and brothers in law Bill and Con Traverse. Leaving to mourn with loving memories his wife of 59 years Bertha, brother Dominic(Madonna) daughters Sharon (Gerard), Rhonda, sons: Glen (Margie) and Corey (Shelly), His pride and joy his grandchildren: Trevor (Raelene), Katie, Olivia, Fiona, and lyla and his great grandson Skylar, his brother-in-law Jim Traverse (Marie), and sister in law Geraldine Mooney (Calvin). Also many nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends. Ned was born and raised in Merasheen before moving to work and raise a family in Jersey Side. He was a quiet and humble man who was known for his boat building and carpentry skills as well as being a fisherman for many years. His love for Merasheen remained in his heart spending time at the cabin every chance he got. Everything with Dad was the "best kind" no matter how much pain he was in. Dad was a honorary member of the Star of the Sea. The family would like to thank the staff at the Lions Manor for their compassionate care during Dads stay and to the Dr's and staff at the HSC for their assistance during Dads final days. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia on Sunday from: 2:00 -5:00 AND 7:00 - 9:00, Funeral Service will take place at Coombs Memorial Chapel on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 2;00 pm.
