Obituary of Gerald Barry

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald Barry November 23, 1937 – April 28, 2023 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving Father, Brother, Grand-Father, Great-Grand Father and friend Gerald Barry at the wonderful age of 85 years old. Predeceased by his loving wife Maureen of 62 years, parents, James and Bride Barry as well as brothers James Jr. and Thomas, and sisters: Rita, Jean, Mercedes, Eileen, and Mary. Leaving to mourn his seven children: Anthony (Paula), Teri (Donald), Gerald Jr.(Peggy), Pearl, David (Eileen), Brian (Tammy),Rodney (Vanessa), and his special dog Tiny. Also leaving to mourn his 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and two brothers Clarence and Leonard. “Barry” was originally from Merasheen and was the toughest and most dedicated fisherman you would be privileged to meet. He worked hard to provide for his family while living his best life on Merasheen Island, even after the resettlement. He enjoyed his cup of tea looking out the window from the cabin, building dory’s and boats, and being Marueen’s taxi on the island when she would pick places that were never known to be walked but, “there are berries there I need to get” so he would row her to and from each day. Gerald had the kindest heart, even though seemed stern on the outside but as the years passed, you could see more through that he adored any, and all visitors that came in his presence. This is especially true in the past 8 months while he was in the Long-Term Care Facility in Carbonear. He had the most wonderful nurses taking care of him and broke their hearts as much as the families when they had to say goodbye. We cannot say thank you enough and let you know how much we appreciate the care and compassion you showed “Pop”. As sad as we are that you are no longer here with us, we are overjoyed that you are now together with your love, Maureen again. May you rest peacefully, and we now have two special angels to watch over and protect us. Visitation will take place at Coombs Funeral Home, on Monday, May 1, 2023 from: 10:00 - 2:00 Funeral Service will take place at Coombs Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 1, 2023 @ 2:30 p.m. Inurnment to follow in Coombs Memorial Cemetery, Southeast.
