Born in Argentia in 1920, Patrick grew up with his parents, four brothers and four sisters. The family resettled to Freshwater in 1941. Paddy married Kay on July 15, 1951.
Paddy worked on the Argentia Base from late 1930's - 1970 until he got laid off from there. He later worked for the contractors with the building of the Telecommunications on the Argentia Base. He then went to Berry Brothers for a few years as painting contractor and maintenance work. Finally he worked at the Placentia Trades School from 1975 - 1985 doing maintenance work until he finally retired.
Paddy loved gardening, and raising his own animals, as well as growing his own vegetables. He made and developed very strong friendships with other fellow farmers.
Dad served for a number of years on the Freshwater Town Council and was a member of the Holy Name Society as well as many other volunteer activities in the community.
He loved his game of cards which he played at the La Fountaine Club and a friends house.
Paddy was a quiet gentle man who was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone. He was also a wonderful husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather .
Special thanks to Dad's homecare worker Roxanne Leonard, for her loving and caring ways even after he moved to the nursing home.
A special thank you and appreciation to Doctor Power (dad's doctor) and Doctor Rockel in their great care of dad. To all the Nursing staff of Unit 1 for their professionalism and loving care of our dad, also the kitchen staff and all the workers, we found were super caring human beings, while dad was a resident at the Placentia Lions Manor Nursing Home.
He will be dearly missed. As Dad often repeated proudly the words of his boss in Argentia ------"Paddy, you are no common man".
