Obituary of Adrian McGrath

Please share a memory of Adrian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Adrian McGrath 1945 - 2023 Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on August 15, 2023, Adrian McGrath, age 77, of Patrick’s Cove. Adrian will be welcomed into heaven by departed members of the McGrath family. Adrian is survived by Rita, his devoted wife of 47 years; his loving mother, Helen McGrath; 2 daughters, Adrienne Foley (Melvin) & Natasha Dohey (Aiden); 2 grandchildren, Carson & Morgan Foley, his pride and joy. Adrian also leaves to mourn: brothers Ches (Allison), Burt, & Brian (Bride, deceased); sisters Katie Barnett (Terry), Hilda Dohey (Eugene), & Ida Coffey (Derek); sisters-in-law Lucy McGrath (Michael, deceased), Betty Sheppard (Clayton); brother-in-law Walter McGrath; step-sisters Nellie McGrath (Ambrose), Anne Duncan (Dave); numerous nieces & nephews, especially Kaitlyn McGrath, who always held a special place in his heart. Adrian was born in Patrick’s Cove in 1945. As a young boy, he enjoyed all the things that life in a small outport community had to offer. From a young age, Adrian had a strong work ethic which took him beyond his small community to jobs in various parts of Newfoundland and Ontario. Patrick’s Cove, however, always held a special place in his heart, and he returned to his hometown to build a home, and with his wife by his side, raise their family. He found work in the construction field, and worked long hours in physically demanding jobs to make sure his girls had the best of everything. During his well-deserved retirement, Adrian still managed to keep busy. He found a love for woodworking. The wooden horses he made can be found all along the Cape Shore and even beyond Newfoundland. He also developed a love of cooking and was always happy to share whatever he made. His grandkids looked forward to his weekly batch of homemade french fries; his fish cakes, soups, and stews were shared with family and friends. While Adrian has left this earth, he will never be forgotten by all those who knew and loved him. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia on Thursday, August 17 at 1 pm (for immediate family members); 2 - 5 pm & 7- 9 pm for general visitation; Friday, August 18 from 10 am - 12 noon. Funeral mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, Patrick’s Cove on Friday at 2 pm. Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Patrick’s Cove. A Successful Man “The man is a success who has lived well and loved much; Who has gained the respect of men and the love of his children; Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; Who leaves the world better than he found it; Who never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; Who looked for the best in others, and gave the best he had.”
