William (Bill) Anthony Roule: September 22nd, 1938 - August 15th, 2026 It is with profound sadness that the family of William (Bill) Roule announce his passing on August 15, 2026, at Carbonear General Hospital. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen (née Bambrick); son, William Jr. (Carmel); daughters, Charmaine Pomroy (Phonse, and Ray Wakeham deceased), Dodie Blanche (Francis), Sandra Barry (John), and Renee (Chris) and former son-in-law, Glenn who remained a cherished part of the family. Grandchildren, Brent (Sherry), Samantha (Brian), Phonse (Sara), Ryan, Allison (Geoff), Jordan (Stephanie), Jake (Liz), Nicole (Steven), Keegan, Emily (Tyler), Tyler and Grace (Luke); and great-grandchildren, Owen, Paige, Luke, Islie, Silvie, PJ, Sadie, Clara, Ivy, Jack, Izzy, Charlie and another precious great grandchild on the way. Also survived by his siblings, Ellen Rogers (Jim, deceased), Madeline Edwards (Ted, deceased), Sue Tarrant (Andy), Laura Flannigan (Cyril, deceased), Robert (Gerry), and Kathy Jarvis (Mario); sister-in-law, Esther; and a large number of nephews, nieces, extended family and friends too numerous to mention. Special mention to his Webbers buddy, helper, and keeper of the key, nephew Boyd, his neighbour Kevin Judge whose help over the years was very much appreciated and Trixie, his little furry friend who loved to curl up on his lap. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Kathleen Roul (née Lockyer); sisters, Anna Mary Drake (Ernest, deceased), Eileen Walsh (Carl, deceased), and Mercedes Clarke (Paul, deceased); and brother, Freeman. Brother-in-law Samuel Bambrick (Nora, deceased), and sister-in-law Mary Wleczyk (Edward, deceased). Born in Webbers Cove on September 22, 1938, William was known as Bill, or Brud to his family. He left Webbers at the age of 18, moving to Placentia, where he worked in Argentia and with CN. There he met and married the love of his life Eileen, and together they raised five children. He was a self-made businessman who, along with his wife, owned and operated a successful carpentry and upholstery shop for over forty years - Roule’s Carpentry and Modern Upholstery, until just a couple of years ago. At age 85, the time had come to hang up his hammer. His woodworking mark can be found far and wide in this area and communities beyond. He was a man of many words. Yes, he loved to yarn! There was nothing shy about him, and he would not hesitate to ask, “Now, who are you?” or “Who do you belong to?”, looking for a connection to someone. He was interested in people, what they had to say and loved to give a few tidbits of advice along the way. A man of great knowledge, with a “can’t let it beat you” mentality, he could think outside the box and was a creative 360* problem solver, with a memory as sharp as a tack much like all those skates he fine tuned over the years. He was in his element when he could reflect back on past events and the history of his family, friends, and community. “And so on and so forth.” He was a devoted family man and although he did not receive formal higher education himself, he strongly encouraged it for his children and grandchildren whom he loved so much and was very proud of the paths taken by all. He loved being outdoors and at his cabins in Southeast and Webbers, and even though his knees gave him trouble in his later years, he stubbornly tackled the stairs just to sleep under the stars and look out over the harbour and at Red Scrape Hill from his bedroom. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia Cremation has taken place. Visitation and Celebration of William’s Life will take place at Coombs Funeral Home on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on August 22nd, in Coombs Memorial Chapel.
