Georgina, Roberta & Melissa! Bertie was a wonderful cousin growing up in Ship Cove. He was a teaser, always trying to make us laugh. Maureen being with us added to the fun. Melissa, I was so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I’ve always remembered the stories you shared about him, and the way your eyes filled with tears when you spoke so lovingly of the man you were proud to call Dad.
Hold tightly to those memories, carry forward the traditions he passed down to you, and may your berry‑picking bucket always be full.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Michelle

I'm privileged to know Melissa, and the love she has for her father speaks volumes about the kind of man he was. Reading about his life, it's clear he leaves behind an extraordinary legacy — not just in what he accomplished, but in the warmth, strength, and character he passed on. My deepest condolences to the family and all who loved him. May he rest in peace, and may those left behind find comfort in one another and in the beautiful memories they carry. — Emerald Nash

Sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved Bertie. The past few years I’ve missed meeting Bertie at the stores where we always stopped and chatted. Journalism was a constant topic of conversation as your daughter and my grandson, Justin chose the same career path. May you all find comfort in the many memories you shared together.

Dear family of Bert, my condolences go out to you. I had the privilege to care for Bert during his time on one south west at pleasant view towers. He was a light to our unit, most times he had a smile on his face and he would take my hand to dance many times. He will be missed by the staff especially me. I’m glad I was able to be there this past weekend to support the family.

For Bertie’s family and friends,
Only years later do we understand that ordinary moments quietly become part of our biography. As children, we rarely realize that we are living the memories we will one day cherish. We think it's just another Sunday. Another family visit. Another drive in and out the shore. Another gathering in Ship Cove. That is where I find Bertie.
Before he became the amazing husband, doting father, and proud grandfather that you love so dearly, he was a carefree, hardworking, sun-kissed young man who was simply always there. He loved classic cars, especially the burnt-orange Monte Carlo that he kept shined to a tee. His signature leather boots will forever be "Bertie boots" in my mind. He was a consummate berry picker, loved lobster, enjoyed the country and good game, and always wore a smile.
Some of my favourite memories are wrapped around music. Bertie loved listening as we played the guitars and sang the oldies. He was there from the infancy of our chord-learning days, and an out-of-tune guitar never stopped his special requests. He would sit, smile, tap his toe, and enjoy every minute.
As the years rolled on, that same easygoing young man would arrive with his beautiful wife, Georgina, and their daughters, Roberta and Melissa, adding to our growing fleet of cousins. He loved a good laugh, treated everyone with kindness and respect, and somehow made every occasion a little brighter. I think Bertie's greatest gift was his presence. He made Sundays special, family time memorable, and the places we loved feel even more like home.
Life has a way of carrying us in different directions. Although I had not seen Bertie in many years, his voice remained familiar through his regular chats with my dad across the country, and every now and then I was fortunate enough to check in as well. Time and distance can never change the place he holds in my memories.
Today, I think of a Monte Carlo. Bertie boots. Framing Extraordinaire. Buckets of berries. Lobsters galore. Toe-tapping to guitars that were still learning to stay in tune. The Wildwood Flower. Sunday visits. Ship Cove.
Thank you, Uncle Bertie, for the memories that have only grown more precious with time.
May you rest in peace.♥️

Georgina, Melissa, Roberta and family-
I am so incredibly sorry about the loss of your amazing husband and father. I wish more than anything that I had the words to ease your pain, even just a little.
This obituary is such a beautiful tribute to him. His love for you was obvious and he felt the love from you until the end- it radiates from the way you speak of him.
Remember to be kind and patient with yourselves along the way and to lean on your friends and family. I am here for anything you need, as always.
