Obituary of Margaret McGrath

April 22,1953 - July 11,2026 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret, in the company of her loving family on July 11, 2026 at the Health Science Centre. Fondly referred to as Mag by all who knew her, she spent her childhood and adult years living in St.Brides on Young's Lane. Like many residents on the Cape Shore the fishery played an instrumental role in their livelihood and Mag was no exception. She initially worked in the fish plant then joined her husband Kenneth in the speed boat. Being a "nervous Nelly" we still find it remarkable that she actually did it. When she retired her rubber boots she took on a new role in the hospitality field as a room attendant on a job site in Long Hr. and then at the local Capeway Hotel. She enjoyed the solitude associated with living on Young's Lane and would always say "I'm not leaving my old shack to move to town". Mag was a gentle and loving soul who appreciated the gestures of kindness and help that were bestowed on her by her family and friends in St.Brides. As her family we are humbly grateful and appreciative. Two of her greatest loves, besides her family, were her fur babies Tazi and Mojo. In her eyes these boys could do no wrong . Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are her daughters and sons; Kim (Chad), Melinda (Bob), Kenny (Tamara), Jay (Danika); Grandchildren; Leah, Lauren, Hudson, Evah and Charlotte; Siblings, Rose (Peter-deceased), Johnny (Blanche); In-laws, Dominic (Elsie-deceased), Benedict (Darlene), Reggie (Jane), Brendan, Calvin (Maureen-deceased), Joseph (Jackie), Vera (Jerome), Genevieve (Vivian), Wilhemina (Johnny), Sheila, Liz, Betty and a long list of family and friends. Mag was predeceased by her fishing buddy husband of 53 years, Kenneth; her parents, Jack and Agnes English; father and mother-in-law, Ignatius and Genevieve McGrath; siblings, Frank (Mary), Steve (Tilley), Lena (Leo), Mike; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ambrose (Nellie-deceased), Gilbert, Junior, Cyril, and Bernadette (Alfred-deceased). A notable mention to Mags special friends who have been as the cliche goes, by her side through thick and thin, and continue to be a source of strength and comfort to us her family. Her nieces, Monica (Kevin) and Franny (Joe); friends, Josephine, Billy and Sherry. Shockingly, Mag was diagnosed with cancer, a few short weeks ago and was treated with professionalism and compassion by staff on N4A Thank you. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. As per Mag's wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm.
