Obituary of John Allen Nicks

It is with profound sadness and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of John Allen Nicks at the age of 94. Known for his dedication to family and friends, kindness and story telling. John touched the lives of all who knew him. He was predeceased by his loving wife Catherine, sons Stevie and Sean, parents, Albert and Mary Nicks; siblings, Hubert, Preston, Paul, and sister Peggy; parents-in-law; Lillian and Edward Quigley; brother-in-law, Patrick Quigley and Great-Granddaughter, Julie. Leaving to mourn are his children; Lillian Murphy (Doug), Sharon English (Wilfred), Patrick Nicks (Heather) and daughter-in-law, Shelia Nash; siblings, Ruth Proctor, Willard Nicks (Patricia). Grandchildren; Cory (Betty), Joshua (Jennifer), Andrew (Mandy), Luke (Jasmine), Jeremy (Jessica), Penny and Stefan (Dayana), Emily and Scott (Yulanda). Great-grandchildren; Lauryn, Jayla, Cooper, Jaxon, Alexa, Weston & Grayson, Mya, Nate, Myles, Catherine and Madeline. Also leaving to mourn are his nieces and nephews in the US. Special friends and neighbours; Dennis and Annie Nash, home care workers, Mike Seymour and Roxanne Whelan. John was born in Dickson County, Tennessee. He joined the US Army when he was 18 where he fought the Korean Conflict. It was during that time that he survived a gun shot wound and received a purple heart. He then discharged from the US Army and enlisted in the US Navy where he eventually made it to Argentia, Newfoundland. it was there where he met his wife Catherine Quigley. They began to start their life and travelled from California through to Argentia. After retirement, John and Catherine moved to Branch to raise their family and became small business owners in the community of J.A. Nicks Grocery for 25 years. John found joy in listening to music and loved to dance, even though he had two left feet. He was a car and history enthusiast at heart. He took great pride in his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He loved to see them and watch them grow. Each time they came to visit, he always had a treat for them and some coins for their piggy banks. He never missed a birthday or special occasion and always called to check in or have a chat. John was a kind, gentle, and intelligent man. His absence leaves a significant void, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. The family will be leaving the Funeral Home on Sunday, July 12th at 2 p.m. to go to Holy Rosary Church in Branch. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m at the Church until 9 p.m. Visitation again on Monday, July 13th until 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 14th until 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Branch. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Branch. " Rest easy Johnny”
