Walter Francis Coffey: July 12, 1948 – June 8, 2026 Walter Francis Coffey, born in Angel’s Cove, Newfoundland, on July 12, 1948, passed away peacefully, at the Placentia Health Centre on June 8, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ida Coffey; his brothers, Clarence, Wayne, and infant William and his infant sister Janet. Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Diane and Joan (Harold) Tobin and his brothers, Brian (Betty), Richard (Darlene), and Melvin (Leonella), along with a large circle of nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Walter. He also leaves behind his beloved fur buddy, Oscar, who was always spoiled rotten by Walter and held a special place in his heart. A kind, gentle and quiet man, Walter welcomed all with a smile and a compliment. Never one to speak ill of anyone, he was always ready for a yarn and a laugh. A lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Walter faithfully cheered on his team through the years and always held out hope for the next season. He also enjoyed watching Coronation Street and was always sure to be home in time for his favorite show. Throughout his life, he cared deeply for his farm animals and cherished time outdoors. In the Fall, he looked forward to setting rabbit snares and cutting wood. In the Summer and Fall, he could often be found picking berries—not for himself, but for friends and family; always thinking of others and never wanting anything in return. His thoughtful nature extended to sharing eggs from his chickens and ducks, ensuring everyone he cared for felt remembered. His family will remember him especially at Christmas, when the first holiday songs played on the radio. He would always report when the music began and enjoyed it until it ended, marking the season in his own quiet way. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him, always easygoing, allowing others to enjoy their lives while remaining content and cheerful himself. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who offered support during Walter’s battle with cancer. Special appreciation goes to the staff of Placentia Health Centre and Coombs Funeral Home, and most importantly to his sister Diane, who cared for Walter with unwavering love and dedication. Together, they had shared years of looking after their parents, tending gardens, cutting wood, caring for animals, and helping others. Diane’s devotion continued through Walter’s illness, ensuring he was comfortable and cared for until the end. Walter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation on Wednesday, June 10th, from 2-8 p.m. at Coombs Funeral Home and on Thursday, from 10 am - 12 pm. Funeral Service to take place on Thursday, June 11th at 12:00 pm in Coombs Memorial Chapel.
