Thinking of you as you grieve the loss of a dear brother and uncle. Walter was a quiet soul who enjoyed the presence and beauty of the nature that surrounded him. He was blessed to always have the support of his big family especially Diane, a devoted sister and great companion. Joan, I am sure it must have been comforting to Walter and all your family, to have you home for an extended time this year. May your memories be a source of comfort and bring peace in the days ahead. May God Bless.
With Sympathy,
Ruby

Sincere condolences to Diane, Joan, Brian, Richard and Melvin and all your families on the loss of your loved one Walter on his passing.
Sorry I was away and could not attend wake or funeral , however Walter and all of you were never far from thought and prayer.
It was always a delight to visit Walter at uncle Wall's as others along the Cape Shore did as uncle Wall was a great historian and Walter remained the same.
When visiting Walter you were always greeted with a smile and a compliment, his relaxed nature and his love for his surroundings including the animals big and small would leave you such a rich memory and inspiration .
I remember him as a kind and faithful person always making sure his rosary was in his pocket.
In the hustle of todays world one could take a great lesson from Walter , his kindness, laughter and quite strength touched everyone who knew him and he will be forever missed.
May he rest in the presence of the Lord.
Take Care will be in touch.
Agnes and Andy.

Sending my deepest condolences to all of my cousins in Angel’s Cove today as you say your final farewell to Walter. I am sorry that I can’t be there with you today as I am out of the country on holidays. I will never forget Walter’s gentle, kind soul , who always had a wonderful smile when we’d meet . At his home he’d offer me something to eat or drink and at public functions he always had gum for me and then beat me out dancing . Walter will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him . He is in God’s arms now and welcomed as a Saint . God Bless you all . XO

Sorry to hear about Walter. I was immediately saddened by the news. Walter was a man of few words, but always had a giggle. So patient with kids and gentle with animals. The Lane will be a different place without him. Rest in peace, Walter, and God Bless all that knew and loved him.

In a world that often feels rushed and chaotic, Walter was the essence of peace. From our childhood antics, through milestones, and up to his final days, his gentle presence reminded us that life's greatest blessings are found in the simplest moments.
As a polio survivor, he carried challenges that many would never understand. Yet he did not allow hardship to define him. Instead, he met life with quiet courage and grace. His strength was in his kindness and the love he showed to others every day.
He never sought greatness, yet he lived with the gentle heart of St. Francis, finding joy in God's creatures and gratitude for many blessings. His serenity was not solemn or pious, but joyful. He loved cheering for the Maple Leafs, enjoying a hearty breakfast, sharing fruitcake, raising chickens, snaring rabbits, and spending time with loved ones. He found happiness in ordinary moments and taught the rest of us to do the same.
Walter was a bit of a time machine. Even over the phone, his familiar, gentle "hello" could transport you to yesteryear, to a simpler time before hustle and bustle and constant noise, when life moved at pace with the seasons. In his voice lived the stillness of a Newfoundland outport, where woodstoves glowed, stories were shared around kitchen tables, cousins and friends filled the house with laughter, and people took the time to truly know and care for one another.
His presence was a gift. He had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome. You never felt hurried or judged in his company. He possessed a tender wit and a generous spirit, always ready with a compliment or a kind word. He carried a calmness that settled those around him and a warmth that made everyone feel at home.
The world often celebrates the loudest voices, but some of the best people are the quiet, gentle souls who leave a lasting mark on the hearts of others. That was my uncle. The world feels a little quieter without him, but his ways live on in the memories he gave us and the honest-to-goodness values he embodied.
We were blessed beyond measure to call him ours.
Rest in peace, Uncle Walter. Well done, good and faithful servant. ♥️

Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, said “try to leave this world a little better than you found it”! I think that is a fitting quote for a man that lived his life outdoors.
I have a lifetime of memories with uncle Walter growing up, from snaring rabbits in the fall and hauling wood to cutting hay in the summer and picking bakeapples up on the mash. As I got older we would even drag at moose in the fall. The outdoors was his life!
I have two little boys of my own now and they loved going into Walter & Diane's to see the animals when we visited. They didn't grow up there but they remember him, and that says a lot. Didn't hurt that he would hand them a few bucks as well!!!
Thinking of everyone home, especially Diane, sorry I couldn't get back.
Love Rhuben, Sophie, Declan & Owen

To The Coffey Family: Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Walter was such a quiet, and kind soul. The love he had for animals demonstrated how caring he truly was. I remember as a child going to the lane to visit Uncle Wall and Walter was by his side showing me the farm. That was a big highlight for me as a child going around the bay. As an adult I remember fondly the bay weddings and how much Walter loved to dance. Keep those precious memories close to your heart. Walter is now reunited with his family in heaven. Rest in peace Walter

Q: What will you never forget about Walter?
A: My daughter wanted to tell the story. When she was five, we went to stay with my mother in Newfoundland. Walter is my cousin‘s uncle. My daughter would get up every morning and have breakfast with me and my mom go to my auntie Darlene‘s house have breakfast with her. We’re Lindsay would take her over to her grandparents house where Walter lived and on this one day they fed my daughter something that they called rabbit and it turned out to be cod tongues and my daughter ate six of them not knowing what they were. She still remembers him and how they would laugh about the times that they shared together on that two week holiday. Fond memories for Sarah fox

Such a beautiful obituary for a one of the kindest and sweetest people on this earth. I remember when Mom would visit the cove, Walter would always make sure she went back to town with bags of blueberries, bake apples and fish. He would get a kick out of Mom getting Wall on the go. When we would bring our kids to see Uncle Wall and Aunt Ida, him and Diane would be so kind to them and welcome them into their home. Walter would bring them out to the barn and show them all the animals. Even with the animals he had a gentle touch. He will be missed in the lane.

Uncle Walter
What can I say that has not been said. You had a heart of gold and every time I entered the door it was always want a beers or want a Pepsi or something to eat.Always one to ask if I was barbecuing lately was one of his jokes at me.I look back to years ago when when he my father wayne Melvin and whoever else wanted to come at rabbits in ship cove and to the days when we were at the moose .Never one to say no to help out no matter what.He treated everyone the same way there was no one better then the other. His kindness and generous soul will always be remembered. And last if by chance the Toronto Maple Leafs win the cup I hope you are clapping those hands for us to hear.RIP Uncle until we meet again you will truly be missed .
