Fergus "Red" Flynn 1933-2026 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fergus “Red” Flynn, who passed away on April 15, 2026, at the age of 92 at the Lions Manor, Placentia. Born in Petite Forte, Newfoundland and Labrador, he lived a long and full life defined by service, kindness, and a deep love of Community. He was predeceased by his daughter Evelyn Flynn (Cyril Bambrick), and his brothers and sisters Mike Emberley, Rita Traverse, Carmel Flaherty, Marie Bonney, and Jean Kelly as well as his parents Laura and James (Jim Gad) Flynn. Left to mourn his passing, for a life well lived, is his wife Marjorie. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Larry (Judy) and Kenneth (Charmaine), his cherished grandchildren Trevor Pomroy (April), April Pink (Derek), Trista Camizzi (Nick), and Lucas, as well as his great‑grandchild Samuel Galway. He is also survived by his brother William Flynn, and sisters Marion Revis and Marg Winstead. He was a proud and active member of the Placentia community. He worked for the Town of Placentia for 42 years, dedicating himself to public service with quiet reliability and pride. Prior to that, he worked as a gut boat operator, a role that not only reflected his strong connection to the sea but ultimately led him to meet the love of his life, Marjorie. Before a formal fire department was established, he served as a member of the community fire brigade manning the first fire truck. He was always willing to step up when help was needed. Helping others wasn’t something he scheduled, it was simply who he was. He was forever thinking of ways to lend a hand, whether by collecting pull tabs for fundraisers, repairing discarded bicycles, and placing them at the end of his walkway with a homemade sign that read “Take me, I’m free.” His deep knowledge of the Placentia area and its history made him an invaluable resource to visiting archaeologists. He often assisted researchers in locating important heritage sites, sharing stories and insights passed down through generations. His guidance helped uncover and preserve pieces of the region’s rich past, further demonstrating his commitment to the community. An avid outdoorsman, he loved trout fishing and spent many happy hours enjoying Newfoundland’s natural beauty. One of his favourite pastimes was riding his bike around Placentia, a familiar and friendly sight to many. He was a natural storyteller, quick with a joke, and took great pleasure in making people laugh. He was endlessly curious and remarkably resourceful, spending countless hours tinkering in his workshop. One of his greatest passions was model boat building, and he lovingly crafted dories for family members, each one a lasting reminder of his skill, patience, and generosity. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through simple acts of kindness, shared laughter, and steady service. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or service. The family requests you honour him by enjoying your favorite place, watching a sunset, sharing a story, or lending a hand. A special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Beachside Manor Nursing Home and the Lions Manor for their care and professionalism.
