Please share a memory of Rudy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With deep love and gentle sorrow, Rosemary and Paige share the passing of their forever friend and best Poppy, Rudy Dohey. On January 2, 2026, Rudy finished his years-long battle with lung cancer.
Born in St. Brides to Dolph and Christie Dohey (predeceased), Rudy was one of seven children. He spent his teen years in St. Brides, where he attended Fatima High School. Not one for studying or homework, he will be remembered for his love of sports, hanging out up by Joey’s, his bad boy reputation, and being on the road every Saturday evening, hitching a ride to Placentia for the Saturday night dance at The Star.
Rudy then moved to Brantford, Ontario, where he went on to craft his trade as an expert bricklayer. He took immense pride in his work, building more than walls and foundations — he built a reputation for honesty, reliability, and dedication that earned him the respect of his peers.
A devoted Toronto Maple Leaf's fan, he followed the team with unwavering loyalty, always hoping that someday he would see them raise that elusive Stanley Cup. Many an argument was had over a few beers at Frankie’s Tavern about what the Leaf's should do to make it to the playoffs.
Rudy will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his loyalty to his friends, and his love for the simple things — a cold beer, a hot meal, a bed to sleep in, and friends he could count on. Friends like Diane, Jay, and Tony from Frankies and Brenny Daley from St. Brides.
His love for “Poppy’s girl” Paige, his forever friendship with Rosemary, and his deep connection with his sister Sharon will always remain in our hearts.
