Obituary of Greg Hughson

Please share a memory of Greg to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Greg Hughson — a devoted husband, loving father, brother, son, and cherished friend—on July 16, 2025, at the age of 64. Greg was predeceased by his father Bruce, his twin brother Carl, his niece Sarah, his father and mother-in-law, Sonny and Madonna Greene, and his brother-in-law, Bill Greene. Greg dedicated over 40 years of service as a water and wastewater operator with the Engineering and Public Works Departments in Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray, Alberta) and East Gwillimbury, Ontario. He was a respected colleague and mentor — known for his unwavering commitment and tireless work ethic. He always went the extra mile to ensure the job was done right. A true gentleman, Greg was calm, kind, and deeply respectful. His quiet strength and gentle nature drew people to him - friends and strangers alike. He listened more than he spoke, and when he did speak, it was with thoughtfulness and care. Above all, Greg was most proud of his role as a husband and father. His love for his family was constant and deeply felt. He and Juanita shared 39 wonderful years together, 33 of them as husband and wife. He took immense pride in his son Jack and all of his accomplishments, always cheering him on with quiet admiration. Greg had a lifelong passion for music; especially, classic rock and the sounds of the 1970s. He spent countless hours reading, researching, and talking about music, building a treasured collection of albums and CDs that he kept in pristine condition. He had a discerning ear and insisted on the best sound systems so he could appreciate every note, beat, and nuance. He also found great joy in nature. On sunny days, he could often be found on the deck, soaking up the warmth, listening to birdsong, and watching the world go by. He loved sunrises and sunsets and every peaceful moment in between. He enjoyed walking, cycling, and working out at the gym, always finding ways to stay active and connected to the world around him. Greg leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his wife Juanita, his son Jack (Nicole), his mother Valarie, his brothers Donald (Kelly) and Andrew (Nathalie); his brother-in-law, Steve (Trina); sisters-in-law, Wendy, Liz (Gabe), Barb (Johnny), Edwina, Wilma (Denis) and Geannie, as well as many extended family members, friends, and colleagues. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation will take place at Coombs Funeral Home on Friday, August 15th from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday, August 16th, from 9-11 a.m. Funeral Service to celebrate Greg's life will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Coombs Memorial Chapel. Inurnment to follow in Coombs Memorial Cemetery, Southeast, Placentia. All who knew and loved Greg are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life well lived.
