Obituary of Catherine (Kay) Newhook

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, the family of Catherine “Kay” Newhook announces her peaceful passing on June 9, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre at 82 years old. Predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth (Greene) brothers Patrick (Esther), James (Myrtle), Joseph (Mary) and sisters Nancy (Jack), Mary (Cyril), Margaret, and daughter-in law, Darlene. Born and raised on Merasheen Island, Kay lived a life rooted in love, prayer, and family. She was the heart of her home and the soul of her family, known for her gentle strength, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 28 years, Hayward (“Junior”), and her seven beautiful children: Mike (Liz), Betty (Kenny), Cathy (Robert), Tim (Robyn), Bobby, Darlene (Rick), and Tammy (Brian). Also leaving behind her brothers Tom (Theresa) and Austin (Ann). Kay took immense pride in each of her children and their families, always celebrating their milestones, big and small, with love and joy. Kay was a woman of deep compassion and quiet strength. She loved to garden, which was her source of peace, pride, and joy. Her heart was as big as the sky, always open and giving. She had a special gift for making others feel cared for — whether through a warm hug, a phone call, or a prayer said quietly for someone in need. If she heard you were sick or struggling, you could be sure she had you in her prayers that night. "She loved with all her heart, and we were lucky to be loved by her." Funeral arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation on Friday, June 13th, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. with Service to take place at 2:00 p.m. in Coombs Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Catherine's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be greatly appreciated.
