Obituary of Cyril O'Leary
Please share a memory of Cyril to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cyril O’Leary, who passed peacefully away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Placentia, at the age of 85.
Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Ida O’Leary; brothers Jimmy and Martin; and sister Lucy. Cyril leaves behind his brother Jackie (Patricia), sister Catherine, and his close friends and nephews Mart O’Leary (Juanita), Joe O’Leary (Francina), Gerard O’Leary (Madeline) and Anthony O’Leary, along with a large circle of extended family and friends who were fortunate to know him.
Fondly known by many as “Maggie,” Cyril lived a simple, quiet, and humble life in the community he held dear — Fox Harbour. He spent much of his time outdoors, enjoying the things he loved most: hunting, fishing, and especially berry picking. Despite hardships, right up until leaving his home in 2024, Cyril remained a true man of the land — always with a fishing rod or berry bucket in hand or spending time in the woods he knew so well.
He will be remembered for his gentle nature, never ending stories, and love for animals (especially his cats). He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Units 1 and 2 at Lions Manor Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Cyril over the past year, and to Father Charlie for providing his final blessing.
Funeral Service to celebrate Cyril's life will be held on Tuesday, April 15th at 12:00 p.m. at Coombs Memorial Chapel. Internment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Fox Harbour.
