Obituary of Francis Conway

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Francis Joseph Conway “Frank” of St. Bride’s, Placentia Bay, on Saturday, March 1st, 2025 at Carbonear General Hospital. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Alice, sister Bridget, brother Alysious, mother and father in law Cyril and Isabelle Nash, sisters and brothers in law Margie and Jack Branning, Bernice and Ernest Maddox, Ray and Madeline Nash, Cyril Nash, Roy Nash, Earl Hann, Jeremiah O’Keefe. Leaving to mourn are Eleanor, his wife of 60 years, his daughters Frances (Joe), Michele (Robert) and Lenora (Kyle), his grandchildren Alice (Justin), Joelle (Nick), Miguel (Lauren), Selby and Raymond, his three great granddaughters Chloe, Samantha and Ella, his brother Mick (Madonna), sisters Betty Spagnoli and Sarah Lagasse, sisters in law Kathleen, Carol (Albert), Linda, Lorna (Dermot), Isabelle (Bobby), Dolly and brothers in law William (Agnes), Kenneth (Jackie) and David (Rita), and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
As a young man, Frank departed St. Bride’s to travel to St John’s for work. He then headed to Wabush, Labrador where he settled, raised his family and remained for 35 years. Upon retirement from Wabush Mines, he moved to Topsail, CBS for 21 years until health issues necessitated another move. A devoted husband, Frank cared for Eleanor at home until her dementia worsened and he himself had a health crisis. For the last year, Frank resided at Beachside Manor in Placentia, choosing to be near the “Cape Shore”, where he could go for his daily drive down by the wharf.
Frank was known for his mischievous sense of humor and could be quite the torment once he got to know you. He loved to have a good laugh and was always there if you wanted to chat. A man with an enormous heart whose ability to do for others knew no bounds. He was generous and kind, known to drive long distances to help someone fix a car or deliver a much needed part. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, Frank actively fundraised to help many children and families around the province, tirelessly volunteering and answering the call when needed. Frank’s greatest accomplishment in life was his commitment to his family. This was the truest testament of his selfless love. It was in his role as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle where he truly shone. He will be forever missed by all those who loved him. "It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home. Until we meet again xox" Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Leaving Placentia on Sunday, March 9th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. to go to Sacred Heart Church, St. Bride's with visitation following.
