Obituary of Gertrude Sullivan

Passed peacefully away at Glenbrook Lodge, St. John's Gertrude "Gertie" Sullivan, formerly of Placentia. Predeceased by husband Wilfrid (2001) and daughter Patricia (1999). Celebrating her life are sons Bruce (Annmarie), Tom (Barbara), and Wilf, daughters Sheila, Helen, Dolores (Fred), Jean (John), and Niki (John), seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Gertie was Librarian at the Placentia Public Library for nineteen years and was active in a variety of community organizations including the Red Cross, Girl Guides, and Placentia Area Historical Society and also served as Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church. Her contribution to the community was acknowledged in 1985 when she was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Placentia Lion’s Club. Much appreciation to Beachside Manor, Lion’s Manor, and Glenbrook Lodge for helping fill mom’s final years with ‘music and friends’. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has occurred.Visitation will take place on Thursday February 2, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday February 3 at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia at 11:00 A.M. with inurnment to follow in Coombs Memorial Cemetery, Southeast. A reception will be held following the burial at the Placentia Arts Center. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sacred Heart Church Restoration Project or the Alzheimer’s Society of NL.
